Samantha Tribley joined the Hadley Junior High School faculty in 2012 as an instrumental music teacher. Ms. Tribley teaches 6th Grade Band, 7th Grade Band, 8th Grade Band, Jazz Band, Music in Media, and in previous years, Music Technology.
Ms. Tribley received a Master of Music Education degree from Northwestern University with an emphasis in Innovative Models of Curriculum and Instruction, and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. While at Illinois, she studied clarinet and piano and played in the university's concert and athletic bands. She also served as a section leader in the renowned Marching Illini, where she met Ms. Elle Pressly, District 41 Beginning Band Director. Ms. Tribley also served as Illinois' collegiate president of the The National Association for Music Education (NAfME) and directed a church choir. Upon graduation, she was awarded the Warren H. Schuetz Memorial Award for Excellence in Music Education. Her primary mentors include Dr. Janet Barrett, Jim DePalo (her former co-teacher at Hadley), Bernie Gerstmayr, Dr. Peter Griffin, Bill Jastrow, Dr. Joseph Manfredo, Don Owens, Dr. Laura Sindberg. Ms. Tribley co-presented at the 2016 Illinois Music Educators State Conference with colleague Paul Marchese on new and innovative music technology curricula in the general music classroom. In 2024, Ms. Tribley again presented at the Illinois Music Educators State Conference with Augustana Music Education Professor Dr. Dawn Farmer in a session entitled "Women on the Podium." Ms. Tribley was awarded Alumni of the Year from the District 207 Maine West Fine Arts Department in 2019. Ms. Tribley was named a Chicagoland Outstanding Music Educator in 2022. This recognition program began in 1989 to recognize Excellence in the field of Music Education in the Chicago area. To be selected, an educator is nominated by one of their peers (other educators, mentors, etc.) and selected by a committee composed of previous winners.
Ms. Tribley began her teaching career as a band director and general music teacher at Algonquin Middle School in Des Plaines, Illinois. She revived a stagnant program mid-year and regained participation in jazz band, ILMEA Festivals, Solo and Ensemble, and collaborative high school events, while implementing a curricular beginning band class and increasing enrollment. During this time, Ms. Tribley also served as the Assistant Marching Band Director at Maine West High School. Prior to coming to Hadley, Ms. Tribley taught band and music theory in Indian Prairie School District 204 at Neuqua Valley High School, Waubonsie Valley High School, and Gregory Middle School. She also worked with the Neuqua Valley Marching Wildcats, the basketball pep band, and a jazz band.
Ms. Tribley sings and cantors in her church choir and has previously played clarinet with the North Suburban Wind Ensemble and the Northshore Concert Band. She frequently serves as an adjudicator for solo and ensemble festivals in the surrounding Chicago suburbs. Professional affiliations include The National Association for Music Education (NAfME) and The Illinois Music Educators Association (IMEA). Outside of school, Ms. Tribley enjoys traveling and upcycling furniture, as well as spending time with her family, friends, and her husband, Mr. Tribley, band & jazz band director and special education music educator at Warren Township High School in Gurnee, Illinois, and their rescue dog, Bentley.
