Absence from a Concert Make-up Assignment
Attendance at concerts is expected and mandatory. Concert dates are provided for the full year at the beginning of the school year. Thank you for adding concert performance dates to your calendar in advance.
Per our band handbook: It is a privilege, not a requirement, to be a member of the Hadley Junior High Bands. Band members are responsible students. Band members are expected and required to participate in all performances. In order to have a successful performance, the other band members as well as Mr. DePalo and Mrs. Tribley depend on each and every one of you. Any absence from a concert will result in an Unsatisfactory grade for the concert performance, unless the student is absent from school on the concert day. All students absent from the concert will be given the alternate assignment of recording all concert pieces on SmartMusic and submitting for a grade. Mr. DePalo and Mrs. Tribley will communicate a due date for the alternate assignment.

1. Why is music important? Think about what it means to you, to society, to education, etc. What are some of the ways that people (including you) experience music on a daily basis and how does it affect us as human beings?
2. Write a self-evaluation of your performance this year in band. What were some things that you did well? What can you improve upon and how will you go about it? What, if anything, would you change?
3. Write a report on the composer of a piece that the ensemble performed. This option should be more than basic overview of the composer’s life, schooling, notable compositions, etc. You should also research and listen to 2 (two) other pieces written by the composer and compare and contrast them to the piece that your ensemble played.
