6th Grade Band... Is it for me? The answers to some FAQs:
Students really enjoy making music, being with their peers and fostering relationships with new and old friends. We do work hard to learn new notes, new skills and new music, while continuing to use SmartMusic at home and at school. Here are some frequently asked questions:
Will I be pulled out of other classes to go to band?
No, band is a separate class at Hadley. You will attend band during the same period every day.
Can I participate in band and choir?
Yes, there is a band/choir combo class. Please register for this if you are interested.
Will I miss tests in other classes?
No, since band is its own class, you will not miss tests in other classes and you won't have to make them up!
Will I be with my friends?
In all likelihood, you will! If you are not in a class with students you already know, you will quickly come to make friends with the students that you are in class with.
Will I be in a class with the same instruments?
Everyone starts in band together! Sometimes, we will rehearse as a full group with all instruments together. Other times, we will break up into smaller groups and work on instrument-specific things.
Are all bands the same, or is it tiered by ability?
All 6th grade bands have been scheduled to have approximately the same number of each instrument. The bands are equal-ability.
Will I still perform in concerts?
Yes, the same ones you performed in when you were a beginning student. There are two evening concerts: Winter and Spring.
